Markus picked up a VHS camera at the age of 10. He was hooked. Years later, he moved to London and began his career in the lighting department, specialising in long and short form drama projects. Nowadays, he’s a sought after DOP in his own right and splits his time between London and Stockholm. The philosophy behind his work is generally that the image should not distract from the story, but enhance it and evoke emotions.
Camera movements, lens choices and lighting is always motivated by character and story. But sometimes, he admits, it’s just about making things look really damn sick. And that’s ok too.
